Bad News! You Can Get Drunk at Home
Sit down. I have some bad news.
We’ve a rare reversal.
You can get drunk at home. Newser reports:
“Iowa’s Supreme Court endorsed the right to be drunk on the front porch of a private home, ruling that a woman can’t be convicted of public intoxication while standing on her front steps. Patience Paye, 29, of Waterloo based the appeal of her 2013 case on the contention that her front steps are not a public place so she can’t be charged with public intoxication. Justices agreed, rejecting a district court judge’s conclusion that Paye’s front porch was a public place….”
There is *so* much wrong with this.
The flimsy supposition that there is a right to be drunk … anywhere.
The very idea that your front steps are not a public place.
This ruling is a temporary setback for us. It is a Bad Example for other judges.
I shall take such solace as I may from the Supreme Court’s sensible upholding of Obamacare. The torch of freedom gutters.
